  1. Just stumbled across your blog and feeling inspired. I have been battling a "mystery illness" for 6 months now. Serious fatigue and various odd symptoms like sore tongue. I am still having tests to figure out what is wrong. Three months ago, they discovered depleted iron stores and I have been treated but with little improvement to symptoms. Recently, I have considered CFS. It fits with my good and bad days, good and bad weeks and my crashes after cleaning or exercising. I am also 37 and gained weight during this illness. I have also watched my beauty slip away. My eyes are not clear and my wrinkles more pronounced. I see a sick person in the mirror.

I can relate to you and I am inspired to change my lifestyle to reclaim my looks and most importantly, my health. I hope you keep sharing and I look forward to reading more.

Thank you for replying! Maybe I'll start blogging about my experience, as well! Hubby and I have decided to go raw and see where it takes us. We've already started to use green smoothies in the morning while we await our juicer. I'm a tad worried about detox symptoms because I've already been so sick, but also, I'm ready to reclaim my health.

I have been reading Tonya's books and plan to ease into raw foods by following her 100 Days to raw Food book. Luckily enough, I already eat a good deal of raw foods. My kids on the other hand... They will be tricky.

Thank you again for your inspiration!

  5. Hi! I just found your blog because I was interested in your results on the raw food diet, what I didn't know was that you were also doing face exercises as well! Could you tell me which three facial exercise programs you tried? I'm getting that monkey mouth with the current program I'm using and wondering if it's the same one you did. I would love to try rawsome flex, I hope my NL lines will diminish with her system, and get rid of my monkey face! Thanks! And your such an inspiration to those who want to do this diet, your results are AMAZING, that alone right there is motivation!

  7. So, you're saying facial exercises don't work and make things worse? I recently purchased Carolyns FF program and have yet to try it for fear I might make things worse! She does have an exercise where she pulls the corners of her mouth down and resists against it by trying to smile while doing it. I'm just trying to get some info about any of them. Was it FlexEffect that gave you monkey mouth? That's the one I was told does! I've watched Tonya on Youtube and she was fantastic! I would love to try dry brushing but am afraid of ruining my skin. Have you tried it? I'm just a mom in her early 40's trying to get rid of marionette lines (corner of mouth to chin lines.) without using fillers or plastic surgery. I don't have the willpower to go raw! I love ice cream too much!!

  9. I agree, Tonya and Carolyn do look very feminine! That's one of the reasons why I chose Carolyn's program! Plus she has excellent customer service! I sent Carole Maggio an inquiry months ago when trying to decide on a program and still have yet to hear from her! As far as my pics at 25 go, I looked great back then. I was also running almost every day and believe it or not, I was smoking as well! Please don't criticize, but I recently quit smoking after 23 years! I realize know what a bad habiit really was! Anyway, it's not my nasiolabial lines that I have a problem with...I don't have those. It's my marionette lines, (from the corners of the mouth to chin lines)and I'm not talking about parenthesis by my mouth, I'm talking creases that look awful in different lighting. I basically look like a puppet :-( It seems as though I've lost volume in this area. Those started showing up when I was 38 or 39 and just got deeper as I got older..... I would give anything to get rid of them. Any ideas besides fillers?

  11. Thanks! With all the stress in my life, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do! 6 weeks later and I still think about smoking all the time! I wish I had the mindset of a non-smoker (as I'm sure you are) You wouldn't even think twice about having a cigatette....lol. I hope by using Carolyn's program I can acheive getting rid of these nasty folds. I wonder how long it would take before I noticed a difference? So, are you using Tonya's facial exercise program as well? I saw a video of her doing dry skin brushing...it looked pretty cool, have you tried it? Is it supposed to thicken your skin or something? Do you know of some facial exercises for the mouth area? Carolyn only has a couple for this area.

Great for you that you were able to go completely raw! I don't think I could do it! I'd be afraid I'd be so miserable and a terrible mood all the time b/c I couldn't have the foods I wanted. Could you tell me what a day of eating is like for you? Just want to get a feel for what the raw food lifestyle is like from a real person!

  12. I'll try this again......Thanks! It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do given my extremely stressful life. My 3 year old daughter just had her 8th open heart surgery and was recently diagnosed with autism! She never sleeps! It's only been 6 weeks and I think about smoking all the time! I just wish my mindset smoking a 2nd thought...lol. Anyway, I commend you for going totally raw! I feel like I would be miserable and ever so grouchy if I couldn't have alot of would be that of a non-smoker (which I'm sure you are). You wouldn't give the foods that I wanted. Could you tell me what's it's like esting raw? What do your meals consist of on a daily basis? Do you also do the skin brushing Tonya recommends? Now, when you said "great news", did you mean, there's still hope for my dreaded marionette lines..lol? Yes, a dent! That's what it is....on each side of my mouth right at the corners that go halfway down my chin! It looks so bad. I've had fillers placed in this area and the plastic surgeon said it was loss of volume and fillers would be the only way to plump up this area! I don't have the money for these fillers and they don't last very long. Plus I'd like to try something more natural. as I mentioned before, I've started Carolyn's FF but she doesn't seem to offer alot of exercises for this area....Do you know of any good face exercises that could help w/these creases?

  14. What an interesting menu...lol. Dare I ask what a mono-meal is? Wow, you're good for sticking to it! What discipline you have!! To be honest, it doesn't sound too tasty! What do you order if you go out for dinner or to a friends house? I would think going raw would make it difficult to go places other than home to eat....maybe I'm wrong. I'm assuming your husband isn't into the "raw" lifestyle? If not, that must be so hard for you being around the "normal food" and it's smells....lol. Well, as far as what you say about vaccines, I'm right there w/you! I'm against giving any to my 3 1/2 year old daughter and haven't. We think the autism or "brain injury" was caused by svc syndrome, which is something she got while she was in the hospital. Which is condition that people w/heart conditions get if their superior vena cava vein is occluded. My daughter's face and head became extremely swollen. One 1 1/2 months later (while she's still in the hospital), the dr.'s finally figured out what is was... by that time, we think it had already done it's damage to her brain! However, my daughter is also orally averse and is tube fed right now. So, we have been researching blenderized diets for tube fed children. My husband met w/a homeopathic dr. who gave him some recipes. She's still recovering from her most recent open heart surgery to replace her mitral valve and coming off of a methadone wean. So, we wanted to give her some time before we started the diet. Anyway, sorry to ramble! I will keep experimenting! By the way, do you have any children?

  16. So Sorry I didn't put my name on here. It's Lisa! What's yous?

That actually doesn't sound so bad! I never thought about dehydrating the foods to turn them into treats! That sounds yummy! So, you must have a dehydrating machine? I do eat relatively healthy. Lots of fruits and vegetables. It's basically the ice cream that I'm addicted to! I don't add salt to my food and feel it when foods have msg. I try to stay away from it, it makes me feel awful!
When you say you're whites are getting much whiter, I'm not sure what you mean...lol. Are you referring to your teeth? I am truly impressed and envious that you have incorporated this as part of your lifestyle. Dare I ask if you ever crave any of the old food you used to eat? Are you ever allowed to indulge and have something not so good for you? It sounds like your husband may be on his way to getting into the raw lifestyle! Good for him!

Thanks for the kind words regarding my daughter. We just kind of learned things as we went along. Kind of more than we wanted to know. Spending almost 2 years in the hospital will do that to you! Anyway, we actually we heard that cilantro has detoxing properties. However, my daughter is on Coumadin and we need to be careful b/c I guess cilantro is a natural blood thinner and can affect her INR levels. I'm not sure if chlorophyll is considered a thinner as well but we could certainly look into it. We were told that when she starts eating by mouth, we have to watch her intake of things like; all green leafy vegetables and anything containing Vitamin K all of those can affect her INR levels. My daughter does get alot of exercise if you can believe it! She can walk if she's assisted. Which is what she does all day. She runs from one end of the apt. to the other and into different rooms...lol. That's her thing! The sad part of all of this is she was fine before we brough her in for her surgery (which was to close a small hole in her heart) so we thought! One surgery turned into 7 open heart surgeries within an 7 months period. She was only 9 months old when she had her first open heart surgery. Neurologically, she was fine. Like any other 9 month old. She was waving good bye, almost talking, walking, etc. After her 5th surgery is when we noticed My daughter went away (mentally). She wasn't the same child! This is how she's been for the past couple of years and we're hoping to get her back someday. Hopefully, through a healthy diet!

  17. I'm sorry....how do you pronounce your first name? Is it Pam? Are you in the U.S?
Wow, I had no idea you could dehydrate food that way! I'll have to try it...how long do you leave it in the oven? I wasn't aware there were so many raw recipes that mimicked some of the "normal foods" The ice cream recipe, I would assume, is probably frozen? Have you tried it? I know what you mean when you mention dairy being so different than it was 20 even 30 years ago! I remember the milkman hand delivering the milk to our house in glass bottles! When you mentioned dairy industry videos making you upset, please tell me they don't abuse the cows or other animals? I haven't see any of the videos. Nothing disturbs me more than to see helpless animals being mistreated!!
So, you're going on vacation....where are you going? I'm sure that will be hard for you to not be able to juice but enjoy yourself. Don't worry, your raw lifestyle will still be there when you get home. You deserve to indulge for a week... maybe it will make you appreciate eating raw even more!
I don't eat much meat either...You're so right about the smell. It smells like stinky feet as its being cooked. I never really cared for it much. I really like seafood and have chicken as part of my diet. I meant to ask, how do you get protein into your diet? I would think if you're only eating fruits and veggies, you must be extremely thin? Do you think you'll be able to continue eating raw for the next 20 years or so?
I hope you're right and my daughter is able to come back mentally, we miss her so much! As for support, yes I am married to the most wonderful man and father a woman could ask for! He has been my rock through this whole ordeal w/our daughter. We've been married for almost 10 years and haven't been out alone together at all, since we've had my daughter! I think it's so important for the relationship to get out and go on dates.... but we don't have any support out here. We had to move to another state b/c of what happened to my daughter. We didn't want to stay in the state and have to take her back to the hospital where all of this happened so we moved about a year ago. We don't know many people and my daughter's been so sick, we're afraid to leave her w/just anyone. We certainly look forward to the day when we can make some time for ourselves that's for sure!

  18. Hi Pam,

It's Lisa....I haven't heard from you in a while! I hope everything's okay! Wondering how your vacation was?

  19. May I jump in here and say that going raw is really not good for you. My sister in law has taken care of many whom have tried these extreme diets and they end up reaking havok on your body. Some have ended up needing feeding tubes because their bodies never worked the same again. Your digestive system can no longer break down or tolerate any other foods that aren't fruits or vegetables. Which certainly are good for you but should not be your main source of nutrition. We need alot of proteins to keep us going. It's what gives us energy. All I'm saying is not to go to the extreme here. The key is moderation!

  21. Hi Pam,

Did know you were back and thought I'd check? So, how was your vaca? Where did you go? How did the eating thing go w/out you being able to juice? I hope you indulged....lol. I want to try to dehydrate some foods to see how they taste to start. Can you give me some ideas on what to try and how to do it and for how long? Well, it certainly sounds like you are super healthy and gaining some good muscle mass, which is something I need to do as well. We don't have time for exercise over here these days. What about you? What kinds of exercise are you doing to keep fit? I need some exercises for my bingo wings! They are atrocious. I'd like some good exercises to firm those bad boys up! lol! I've also seemed to have lost my butt. I used to have what my husband called a "tiny heiny" but not anymore....I just don't have a butt anymore period. I guess it's gone kind of flat.

Anyway, you mentioned that you're polish. Is your hubby polish as well? A couple of my friends growing up were from Poland and could speak polish. They had a last name noone could pronounce, Szyfelbein. haha But they were wonderful friends and I loved to listen to them speak in polish...I love the way it sounds!

Well, I hope you and your hubby had a great time away. Would love to hear all about it.

  23. Hi Pam,

I'm so glad to hear you had a good time on your vacation! So sorry that you weren't able to enjoy your juicing while you were away.... but at least you were able to indulge yourself somewhat!
When you say that dairy makes you sick, what happens? As I told you before, I eat a bowl of ice cream every night after dinner...I'm totally addicted to it! However, it usually doesn't bother me but for some reason tonite I had grilled cheese and then ice cream and felt so sick and constipated! I just don't get it! Last nite I had salad with a little chicken, oil and vinegar and did fine...most times salad gives me awful stomach pains and goes right through me. I don't know what to make of my GI system but something seems out of whack!

I don't really care much for yams....lol. Is there anything else you could recommend that I can try? I've really tried to like them but there's something about the sweetness and consistency combination that I just don't like!

I love your exercise routine!! You're so right when you say life should be exercise and not something on the side.....I wish it was that easy for me...I don't have much space in our apt. here to do any kinds of cartwheels....It probably wouldn't be a good idea to try since I have a herniated disc and would probably end up in the R.R.

Just wondering, I think I may have mentioned about the marionette creases that go from my mouth almost to my chin. Have you come across any kinds of exercises that would address those? Everything else on my face looks fine but it seems as though I've lost volume in that area probably from smoking....I;ve had restylane injected into them in the past and loved the result...it's just expensive and doesn't last very long! Have you ever tried any fillers or plastic surgery?

As for gardening? I love it and used to do it when we lived in a house in Boston. When we moved here for our daughter unfortunately, we had to foreclose on our house and have been living in an apt. here in Michigan. It's been hard b/c we used to love taking care of the yard, the flowers, etc. Now it's not our responsibility and don't have a say in what we do here. We are lucky though. We live in a ranch style duplex. So we have noone upstairs or downstairs. Just one person on the otherside of us.

Anyway, sorry to babble. Hope to see pics of the vacation....sounds like you had a great time!

  25. Hey Pam,

Maybe I'll try the yams...you have to give me step by step instructions though...Do I dehydrate them on a baking sheet, how long do they cook for, etc? I'm sure you're right when you say the chin is related to the reproductive system as my periods were always pretty scattered unless I wss on the pill. Which I was to help regulate them. I also had a really difficult time getting pregnant w/my daughter and had to do IUI...but oddly enough, my daughter was conceived when we had just about given up! Since delivering her, my periods have stopped. I was told by my endocrinologist that my pituitary isn't sending signals to my ovaries to tell them to work. In other words, my estrogen and progesterone have been extremely low and have been for about 4 years. They've reccommended that I go on the pill or take hormone replacement. I've been putting it off and thinking about it all the time but was scared b/c of all you hear about synthetic hormones and cancer. However, I have recently decided to try bio-identical estrogen and progesterone creams and see how that goes. I've been getting hot flashes and haven't had a good night sleep in ages! We'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to seeing my skin glow and look really healthy again b/c I'm replacing my hormones. I've heard bio-identical hormones help reverse the signs of aging. Do you have any experience or know anyone who's taking these? I'd love to know the outcomes.
As far as my daughter goes, we plan on starting her blenderized diet within the next couple of weeks. However, we need to get her INR-Coumadin level into normal ranges before we start. I can't wait to see how she reacts ot it!

So, I'm curious.... Are you planning on having children in the future? It's alot of work but the payoff is beyond words!!

  27. Hi,

I came across your blog because i googled nasolabial lines. I totally related to you when you said "nasolabial lines (got) worse. One even gave me bulges on each side of my mouth. It looked monkey-ish."

I never had this problem in my twenties but i suffer with tourettes, ive had facial twitches for the past 5 years and that's how i developed the nasolabial lines and the bulges on each side of my mouth. Could you please tell me which exercises in particular helped you with this problem. I know you said the neck and chin ones but i went through the book and i wasn't sure specifically which exercises you meant. Please help me because i am so down about the way i look, i don't even want to look in the mirror anymore and hate having photos taken. I wasn't like this when i was younger (im 32 now).

    Thanks!

    Sara

  29. Hi Pam,

I have tried all sorts of diets that people recommended, none have made a difference. My tics got worse the past few months and i felt like i have no reason to live. I am now trying to research about an alkaline diet. I dont know how to get tested to find out what my PH is. They don't sell those strips in the chemists here so i could probably buy some online? Would that be a good start? Some people swear by the high in alkaline diet, saying it helps reduce tics but im still not convinced. in any case i have started to give it a try, i started today with eating lots of greens and boiled potatoes. I will hopefully find out about other foods because i cant live on just those two!!

Tourettes is a nightmare condition, if you ever want to know anything just ask! Im glad you are here to help and giving everyone good advice :)

    Sara
